BC Brain Wellness Program Launches a “Care Partner Preparedness Course” for National Family Caregivers Month
by Elaine Book
November is National Family Caregivers Month and BC Brain Wellness is excited to introduce a new program tailored for caregivers — the “Care Partners Preparedness Course: Building Skills While Making Connections.”
Being a caregiver can be a fulfilling but challenging role, and we want to acknowledge the efforts of caregivers across the nation. Whether it be simply providing companionship, or managing a loved one’s medical needs, a caregiver plays an essential role in the health and wellness of those they care for.
Beginning on Monday, November 1, 2021 and running each week through Monday, November 29th, we invite caregivers to participate in this five-week, live online program, to have the opportunity to learn various strategies to provide care to someone else — as well as caring for themselves.
Expert speakers will be addressing topics including:
Changes in mood and cognition;
Communication challenges;
The role of allied health professionals and how to access their talent;
Tips on coping, and
Resource navigation.
Each of the five sessions will close with a self-care experience that will provide practical tools to use in the future. We wholeheartedly welcome caregivers to learn with and from others during this immersive and collaborative event. In the meantime, see an earlier post on self-care for some useful tips.
Registration is limited, so early sign-up is essential to avoid disappointment https://www.bcbrainwellness.ca/care-partners-prep
