Let the Arts do Your Talking: In-Person Art Workshop

Come join us for an art session that will let you use colour, shape and imagery to express what is meaningful to you. Discover how the creative process can foster healing and mental well-being. No artskills required. 

Seats are limited! We encourage you to bring their own supplies, but we will have some supplies available for people to borrow. If you intend to borrow, you will need to fill out the supply borrow form on the website. Light snacks will be provided at the end.

Research Seminar Series: The cycle of sleep, stress, and cognitive health in everyday life

In this session, we will share our lab’s research on the role of psychological factors and health behaviours in cognitive health. We use naturalistic methods in our work – including wearable health monitors, saliva sampling, and mobile surveys — to track health, well-being, and experiences as they unfold in real-time. Our research has revealed reciprocal relationships between sleep and stress in daily life, in addition to links between stressors and fluctuations in everyday cognitive functioning.

Join the BC Brain Wellness Program and our community partner, Music on Main, at this in-person workshop. This participatory intergenerational event draws upon our collective voices coming together in a single space. Through breath and song, we will playfully explore a variety of vocal expressions. When we create vocal music together, we learn to listen and express our voices with care for ourselves and one another.

The Brain Wellness Program welcomes you to an in-person yoga class with Vanessa Barron. The class will start with a short meditation and centering and move through a variety of poses from lying to sitting and standing. Please bring your yoga mat with you. This will be a prop-light class; however, feel free to bring your blocks or a folded towel/blanket if you use them regularly in your practice and know that you would like to modify some poses.

Research Seminar Series: The Neuropsychology of Aging, Cognition, and Mental Health

In this Research Seminar Series event, Dr. Hayden will discuss neuropsychological profiles of cognition in normal aging and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) versus neurological decline.  A review of the impact of mental health factors on cognition and neurological diagnostic considerations will be provided.  Prevention and cognitive compensatory strategies will also be discussed.

What is pain? What affects our perception of pain? Join us on June 7th with our speakers Dr. Kenneth Craig, the Director of the BC Pain Research Network and Professor Emeritus of Psychology at UBC, and Nicole Bailey, a graduate research assistant at the Kramer lab at ICORD. Research Seminar Series: Creating New Brain Cells - A Look into Neurogenesis

Join us at our Research Seminar Series on April 5th to learn more about your brain, specifically how new cells are produced in your brain and how this might affect memory and mood. Neurogenesis, defined as the formation of new neurons in the brain, is a complex process of which our speaker, Dr. Jason Snyder, is an expert in. In this session, Jason will walk us through the basics of neurogenesis, how his lab investigates the role of neurogenesis in behaviours such as learning and decision-making, and how functions of neurogenesis in animals might translate to humans.

First, Amanda Cammalleri will discuss a multimodal exercise, mindfulness, and nutrition intervention on healthy aging subjects. Following which, Mikey Jose will explore how audio interventions can be used to alleviate apathy in Parkinson's Disease. Finally, Shayan Keymanesh will consider how a Mediterranean-ketogenic diet may improve gut and brain health in people with Parkinson’s Disease.
