Remembering Dr. Jack Taunton, Co-Founder of the BC Brain Wellness Program
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of friend, mentor and co-Founder of the BC Brain Wellness Program, Dr. Jack Taunton.
Jack was instrumental in the development of the BCBWP and numerous other life changing programs in Canada. He was the Chief Medical Officer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He was a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and School of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia and had a sports medicine practice at the Allan MCGavin Sports Medicine Centre. He was a founding director of the Centre, the first in Canada dedicated to Sports Medicine and Sport Science with physiotherapy, orthopaedics, primary care and research units. It became the training site for many sport medicine physicians, physiotherapists and researchers. His patients ranged from elite athletes to recreational and fitness active individuals and from children to seniors.
Not surprisingly, he was appointed to the Order of Canada earlier this year. The legacy of his work, passion and creativity has left an indelible mark on our country and on all those who had the privilege to meet him.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Cheryl and all his family and friends. Thank you Jack. Forever in our hearts and never forgotten.
