World Brain Day
By: Jiayi Li
There are a number of days designated to various neurological diseases as it proves to be a great way of generating advocacy and raising awareness around the globe. The World Federation of Neurology (WFN), established on July 22, 1957, brought forth the idea of ‘World Brain Day’ in 2013 as a means to increase public awareness and promote brain health. It has since been endorsed and remains an annual celebration, held on the 22nd of July each year.
Brain Health for All
The World Federation of Neurology has selected the year’s theme to be "Brain Health for All." This all-encompassing theme aims to bring recognition to the importance of a healthy lifestyle on brain health at every stage of life. Professor Grisold, president of WFN, states that “brain health for all has never been more imperative” and that to ensure this we need to “support the implementation of national health policies preventing brain disorders and ensuring access to appropriate and timely diagnosis, treatment and care for everyone” (see article here).
