Social connection in a Digital World:  Potential Benefits and Pitfalls for Those Living with Chronic Illness

The use of online technologies, such as texting and social media, to connect with others has become a ubiquitous part of daily life.  In this upcoming research seminar series talk, Dr. Holtzman will review the latest evidence investigating the potential benefits and pitfalls of seeking support and connection online.  Particular attention will be given to research on aging populations and those living with chronic illness, such as chronic pain. 

About the Speaker:

Dr. Susan Holtzman

Dr. Susan Holtzman is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus and a registered psychologist. Dr. Holtzman’s research aims to understand the connection between social relationships and wellbeing. She is particularly interested in the power of online spaces to improve access to social support for those living with chronic health conditions, such as chronic pain.
