Join us for an engaging Wellness Wednesday talk with Dr. Joanie Sims Gould and Dr. Joanna Pozzulo, as they explore how engaging in activities with others can unlock new levels of well-being through the power of connection and community. Dr Sims Gould will be giving an overview on "Choose to Move", an effective evidence based physical activity and social connectedness program that has been implemented across British Columbia. She will be speaking on the evidence behind it and share with you how to get involved. Dr. Pozzulo will examine the research related to reading in addition to the benefits of being part of a community. What to read and how to start a book club will be discussed. Details of the “Reading for Well-Being Community Book Club” will be presented.

Dr. Joanna Pozzulo
Dr. Joanna Pozzulo is a Chancellor's Professor in the Department of Psychology, Director of the Mental Health and Well-Being Research and Training Hub (MeWeRTH), and Director of the Laboratory for Child Forensic Psychology at Carleton University.
Dr. Pozzulo’s main research program aims to understand how memory in the context of witnessing crime differs across the lifespan with a focus on the young eyewitness. By using evidence-based approaches her goal is to reduce wrongful conviction. Relatedly, she is interested in non-judicial factors that influence juror decision-making.
In addition, Dr. Pozzulo is passionate about teaching and research in the area of well-being. She has created undergraduate and graduate level capstone courses focused on well-being that include experiential learning opportunities. Relatedly, her goal is to use evidence-based work to promote well-being to a general audience.
Dr. Joanie Sims Gould
Dr. Joanie Sims Gould is a Principal Scientist of the Active Aging Research team (www.activeagingrt.ca ), Executive Director of the Active Aging Society and a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Family Practice, University of British Columbia. The goal of Joanie’s work is simply speaking is to “add life to the later years”. With the Active Aging Research team she; i) designs, implements and evaluates scale-up of flexible health promoting interventions (e.g. Choose to Move, www.choosetomove.ca ) for older adults, adapted to population and setting, ii) assesses factors that influence older adult health indicators (mobility, social connectedness and mental health (e.g. loneliness), iii) evaluates translation of research findings for different groups to optimize impact. Joanie works closely with a broad range of partner groups that span BC and beyond. Joanie is a registered social worker.
