National Seniors’ Week

By Sienna Muller

As we head into June, not only do we welcome the official start of Summer, but we celebrate National Seniors’ Week!

Did you know that...

  • The aging population is growing rapidly on a global scale and between 2012-2050 the population of people aged 60+ will double

  • At least 1/4 of older adults struggle with mental illnesses, yet 2/3 of these seniors do not get the treatment that they need

  • Medical illnesses, like Alzheimer’s, increase the risk for mental illnesses and the severity of symptoms

This year, National Seniors’ Week is celebrated from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9 and what better way to celebrate than to connect with the Canadian Coalition for Seniors’ Mental Health (CCSMH).

This organization promotes the mental health of seniors by celebrating their perspectives, providing no-cost tools and resources, and forming meaningful connections. Their areas of focus include long-term care, anxiety, wellness in aging, behavioural and psychological support of dementia, and more.

To join this initiative in highlighting the resilience of older adults and emphasizing the importance of health and well-being, connect with them on their social media channels:

  • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ccsmh/

  • Twitter: https://twitter.com/ccsmh

  • LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/company/ccsmh

  • Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/ccsmh

Together, let’s flourish in all seasons of life.
